9/29/11

Today we reviewed how to graph an equation (after putting it into slope intercept form), corrected the worksheet from yesterday and started the back side of the graphing worksheet.

Assignment:
Complete the back side of the graphing WS
1. Put equation into y=mx+b format
2. Create a table using the values -5, -1, 0, 1, 5 for x
3. Graph on the paper

To review how to do this..... follow this linkhttp://mrs-boyer-shs.blogspot.com/2011/09/92811.html

Assignment: Back side of WS  is HOMEWORK

Upcoming: Review Worksheet and Quiz on Monday or Tuesday

9/28/11

Learning:
  • Today we reviewed putting an equation into y=mx+b format

  • We then reviewed the steps to graphing a line with a calculator
    • put the equation into y=mx+b
    • push y= button
    • push graph button
      • if there are problems try pushing window button then 6
    • to see the table, push 2nd button then graph button
  • We looked at putting graphs onto paper using an x/y chart (using the numbers -1, 0, 1 for x
Assignment:
  • 1-6 on Graphing Worksheet (1. Graph on calculator, 2. Write an x/y table with points -1, 0, 1 and 3. Draw graph on the worksheet  (EVERYONE had hw)
    • REMINDER: x is the sideways line and y is the up and down line
      • X is the FIRST number listed and Y is the 2nd number listed
      • x to the right is positive, x to the left is negative
      • y up is positive and y down is negative
Upcoming:
  • More graphing practice
  • Quiz on FRIDAY OR Monday

9/27/11

Happy Tuesday on this Four Day Week!

Learning:

Assignment:
  • Only a few students finished up the two worksheets. If you DID NOT finish both worksheets, they are HOMEWORK and due tomorrow (Wednesday)
Upcoming:
  • REMINDER: we are now having class in C108 INSTEAD of C111. This gives us lots more space!
  • Graphing! Graphing! Graphing! :) and solving for x

9/22/11 Social Contract

Today we created a Social Contract!!! Great work Students! We are now Algebra evolved. Stay tuned to finish this up tomorrow as a group :)

9/21/11

Learning:
  • Reviewed notes from yesterday
  • Took notes  on extending y=mx+b
  • CLICK on notes to make them bigger!
  • Practiced Slope Intercept form
  • Gave examples for what you put an equation into slope intercept form
    • Allows you to compare prices--such as paying a set amount per month for your cable bill and paying additional for each movie you rent through the cable company. An equation for this might look like: y=$64 + 4x   where $64 is the amount you pay each month and each movie you rent costs $4 each.
    • Makes it easier to graph the line on your calculator
    • Allows you to quickly identify the slope (how steep the line is) and the y intercept (where the line graphed crosses the y axis)
    • When looking at y=mx+b   the m is the slope and the b is the y-intercept

Assignment:
  • One problem--Put 4x+3y=12 into slope intercept form (y=mx+b)

Upcoming:
  • Creating a social contract
  • Hands on practice for slope intercept form
